The short answer

Eid al-Fitr 2027 (1 Shawwal 1448 AH) is expected on Tuesday, March 9, 2027, based on the Fiqh Council of North America's calculation. Eid al-Adha is expected on Sunday, May 16, 2027, after the Day of Arafah on May 15, 2027. Communities in the US and Canada that follow a local moon sighting may celebrate a day later.

How it is calculated

Eid al-Fitr = 1 Shawwal; Eid al-Adha = 10 Dhu al-Hijjah; Day of Arafah = 9 Dhu al-Hijjah, the day before.

Time left = midnight at the start of the Eid date in your time zone − the time now on your device

Worked example

Adam in Toronto wants to book a day off for Eid prayer in 2027.

  1. Eid al-Fitr 1448 AH is expected on Tuesday, March 9, 2027 in the FCNA calendar
  2. If his mosque follows a local sighting, Eid could be Wednesday, March 10, 2027 instead
  3. Eid al-Adha is expected on Sunday, May 16, 2027, 68 days after Eid al-Fitr
  4. The countdown on this page runs to midnight Toronto time at the start of the expected date, so it matches his own clock

Adam requests March 9, 2027, off and keeps March 10, 2027 flexible until his mosque confirms the date.

Special cases and common mistakes

  • Sighting or calculation. Some mosques in the US and Canada announce Eid only after the new crescent is seen on the evening of the 29th. Others follow a calendar calculated in advance, such as the one from the Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA). The two can be a day apart, even in the same city.
  • The countdown uses your time zone. It ends at midnight at the start of the expected date where you are, from Atlantic to Pacific time. Eid prayer is held in the morning after sunrise.
  • Day of Arafah (9 Dhu al-Hijjah) is the day pilgrims stand at Arafat during Hajj. It always falls the day before Eid al-Adha, and many Muslims not on Hajj fast that day.
  • Eid moves about 11 days earlier each year, because the Hijri year is roughly 11 days shorter than the Gregorian one. Eid al-Fitr goes from March 9, 2027, to January 14, 2032, across this table.
