Image to text converter that never uploads your image
Choose or paste an image and the text is ready to copy in seconds. Reading happens on your device.
Last reviewed: October 9, 2026Runs in your browser. Nothing you enter or open is uploaded.
The short answer
Choose an image or paste one with Ctrl+V, pick the language, and the tool reads the letters inside your browser. Copy the text or save it as a .txt file. It is most accurate on printed text, screenshots and receipts, and it warns you when a photo is too blurry. Handwriting is not supported.
How it is calculated
Before reading, the image goes through three clean-up steps recommended in the Tesseract engine docs: small text is enlarged up to 2×, the image is turned gray, and ink is separated from paper with an automatic threshold (Otsu’s method). Light text on a dark background is inverted.
The engine then reads each line and scores every word. We show the lowest score: 85% or more is a clear read, 60–85% means check the text, and below that we ask for a sharper photo.
Worked example
Press "Try a sample image" and the tool draws a receipt line, then reads it:
- Language is set to English. Numbers, dates, $ and % are read in English mode.
- The first time, the page downloads the reader once (about 5 MB). After that your browser keeps it.
- The text appears with a word count, a confidence score, and a Copy button.

Quick reference table
| Image | Characters read correctly |
|---|---|
| Clean printed text or a screenshot | 99–100% |
| Very small text (12 px) | 99% |
| Receipt line with numbers and dates | 100% |
| White text on a colored background | 99% |
| Slightly tilted, slightly blurry photo | 98% |
| Very shaky, dark photo | under 40% |
Special cases and common mistakes
- Phone photos: shoot straight on, not at an angle, in daylight, and fill the frame with the text. That lifts accuracy more than any setting.
- Handwriting is not supported. The engine is trained on printed type.
- Spanish and French too. Switch the language before choosing the image. Use one language at a time for the best accuracy.
- Privacy: your image is never uploaded. The only download is the reader itself, once.
Frequently asked questions
Is this image to text converter free?
Yes. No sign-up, no watermark, no limit on images. Reading runs on your device, so there is no per-image cost to pass on.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The image stays in your browser and is read there. You can check: after the first load, turn off Wi-Fi and the tool still works.
How do I copy text from a picture on my phone?
Open this page on your phone, tap "Take a photo" or choose one from your photo library, then tap Copy text.
Why are some words wrong?
Usually the photo is tilted or dark, or the text is tiny compared with the whole picture. Retake it closer and in better light, and make sure the right language is selected.
Can I convert several images at once?
Yes. Select several images together; they are read one after another and the text is combined, one paragraph per image.
