Working days calculator: business days between two dates
Pick two dates and a holiday calendar. Weekends, public holidays and your own days off are taken out automatically.
US federal holidays per OPM; Canada general holidays per the Canada Labour Code (canada.ca)Last reviewed: October 9, 2026
The short answer
Working days are the calendar days between two dates, counting both ends, minus Saturdays and Sundays and minus public holidays that fall on weekdays. November 2026 has 30 days, 9 weekend days and two US federal holidays, so it has 19 working days.
How it is calculated
Working days = calendar days (start and end included) − weekend days − holidays on weekdays − your extra days off
A US federal holiday on a Saturday is observed the Friday before; on a Sunday, the Monday after (OPM).
Worked example
Jordan is planning a project in a US office that follows the federal holiday calendar. How many working days are in November 2026?
- November has 30 days, 9 of them Saturdays or Sundays
- Federal holidays inside the month: Veterans Day (November 11) and Thanksgiving Day (November 26), both on weekdays
- 30 − 9 − 2 = 19
- With Canada's federal holidays instead, only Remembrance Day falls in November: 20 working days
November 2026: 19 working days with US federal holidays, 20 with Canada federal holidays, 21 with weekends only.

Special cases and common mistakes
- US federal holidays (OPM): New Year's Day, Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. (third Monday in January), Washington's Birthday (third Monday in February), Memorial Day (last Monday in May), Juneteenth (June 19), Independence Day, Labor Day (first Monday in September), Columbus Day (second Monday in October), Veterans Day, Thanksgiving (fourth Thursday in November) and Christmas. In 2027, July 4 is a Sunday, so it is observed on Monday, July 5.
- Canada general holidays (Canada Labour Code): New Year's Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day (the Monday before May 25), Canada Day, Labour Day, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30), Thanksgiving (second Monday in October), Remembrance Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. These apply to federally regulated workplaces.
- Canadian holidays on a weekend stay on their date here. Under the Code, a federally regulated employee gets the scheduled workday immediately before or after for some of them, and for others the day can be added to vacation. That choice is your employer's, so add it as an extra day off once you know it.
- State, provincial and company holidays are not built in. Type those dates in the extra field.
- Federal holidays are not always days off at a private company. Use the holiday list that matches your workplace, or pick None and enter your own.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate business days between two dates?
Count every day from the start date to the end date, including both, then subtract Saturdays, Sundays and any holidays that fall on weekdays. The calculator does this and lists the holidays it removed.
How many working days are there in 2027?
With a Saturday–Sunday weekend: 261 weekdays. Subtracting US federal holidays leaves 249; subtracting Canada federal holidays leaves 253.
What happens when a federal holiday falls on a weekend?
For most US federal employees, a holiday on Saturday is observed the Friday before and a holiday on Sunday the Monday after. The calculator moves the day off the same way when you pick US federal holidays.
Does the calculator include the start and end date?
Yes. Both dates count, so Monday to Friday of the same week is 5 working days.
Can I add my own holidays or vacation days?
Yes. Type dates as 2026-11-27, or a range as 2026-12-24..2026-12-31, separated by commas. Dates that fall on a weekend or a public holiday are not subtracted twice.
